about
Learn more about why Carlos Ridruejo is the right candidate to serve on the Select Board.
Brookline is home.
Carlos immigrated to the United States to pursue architecture studies, earning both a Bachelor of Architecture (Cornell) and a Master of Architecture (MIT). After completing graduate school, he met his wife, Alisa Kahn, and in 2005, they chose Brookline as the ideal place to raise their family. Their son currently attends the Runkle School. Carlos and his family enjoy volunteering in Runkle PTO fundraising activities.
Carlos gained extensive experience working with several award-winning local architecture and planning firms before founding his own multidisciplinary practice, specializing in architecture, graphic design, and brand development. His architectural work has been published in design magazines. Many of his clients include local nonprofit and community leaders in their respective fields.
Carlos has always been an active volunteer, but his commitment to Brookline deepened after becoming a U.S. citizen in 2016, igniting his passion for civic engagement. He views Brookline as a shining example of what a community can achieve when its members care deeply for one another.
In 2019, Carlos was appointed to Brookline’s Advisory Committee, the fiscal advisory body to Town Meeting, where his expertise as a Massachusetts-registered architect and a US Green Building LEED BD+C-accredited professional has been highly valued. Serving on this committee has provided him with invaluable insight into the workings of municipal government. He has contributed significantly as a member of the Land Use, Zoning, and Sustainability Subcommittee and the Capital Subcommittee, reviewing budgets of the Planning and Community Development, Recreation, Building and Public Works departments and the Town’s Capital Improvement Program as well as preparing reports on Warrant Articles for Town Meeting’s consideration.
Over the past six years, Carlos has served on multiple advisory, review, and selection committees, offering his professional expertise and knowledge of inner workings of the Town. Through this work, he has continued to develop collegial and mutually respectful relationships with Town Hall staff.
Carlos’ unique combination of professional expertise and civic involvement has given him a comprehensive understanding of how Brookline can evolve—physically, fiscally, and civically—during what promises to be a transformative period in the Town’s history.
In his free time, Carlos enjoys spending time with his family, exploring architecture, woodworking, winter sports, building things with his son, photography, walking, biking, and listening to music and audiobooks. He recently completed and highly recommends Robert Caro’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 1,300-page epic, The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York.
